Eagle Defense Shuts Down Soddy: Will host Red Bank on 8/25/23

Evensville, TN -- 8/18/23

Rhea County opened the 2023 season with 34-0 win over Soddy Daisy in home game on Friday, August 18, 2023. Soddy won the toss and took the ball. Eagles stopped Soddy and then took the ball downfield to score with 5:14 left on first quarter clock on an Ethan Davis 1-yard run. On Eagles' next possession, they scored on a Hunter Crowe 1-yard run. Fugate was successful on both extra-point attempts. Eagles had a very good 2nd quarter with 4 scores in the quarter. Rhea scored on a Caleb Carr 16-yard scramble with 2:43 left in 2nd and Ethan Davis broke loose for 46-yard run with 1:41 left on 2nd quarter clock. Fugate hit the first kick, but had second point-after-touchdown attempt blocked to leave Eagles up 27-0 at halftime.

Eagles scored in the 3rd quarter with Hunter Crowe scampering 25 yards with 1:13 to finish the scoring for the Eagles's. Eagles had the ball 26:04 minutes to 22:56 minutes, a little unusual number considering the score. Eagles had 13 first-downs compared to 5 for Soddy. Rhea did not punt. Eagles converted on a very good 5/8 third-down attempts, while Soddy went 3/9. Soddy gave up 2 interceptions and Rhea gave up 2 fumbles. The Trojans averaged 31 yards per punt on 4 punts for 124 yards total. Very low number of passing yards in the game. Eagles had 2 catches for 46 yards(both by Ethan Davis) and Soddy had 2 catches for 20 yards by Aiden Hollis. Carr worked at quarter back for the Eagles and Tucker Ross worked at quarterback for Trojans. Eagles had 303 yards rushing on 39 attempts vs 44 for Soddy on 24 attempts.

Ethan Davis led the Rhea rushing attack with 161 yards on 14 carries. Hunter Crowe had 42 yards on 6 carries and Cam Potts added 56 yards on 8 carries. Quarterback Caleb Carr accounted for 21 yards on 4 carries. Bristyn Stewart had 41 yards on 13 carries to lead the Trojans.

On defense, Ace Robinson led the Eagles with 9 tackles and Hunter Crowe was close behind with 8 tackles. Mason Ford and Ethan Davis had interceptions.

Red Bank 7 Rhea County 3 In 2022

Red Bank, who is next up for Eagles won handily last Friday against Tyner. Red Bank won 44-6 over Tyner in a turnover filled game. Tyner scored on two block punts and two interception returns and this game was over by halftime. Tyner was coming off a State Championship in 2022, as they went 14-1 and beat Soddy Daisy 35-7 last year. Red Bank comes off an 11-3 season in 2022-23 and own a win over the Eagles 7-3 last year in Red Bank. Some interesting stats were 3 sacks by Maurice Shirley and Michael White. Eagles punted 4 times and scored 3 points, so offense was not good. The leading tacklers in that game were Latron Alloway and Hunter Crowe. Kaleb Martin played most of the game at quarterback and gave up 2 interceptions in the game. Ethan Davis was very good in defeat with 29 carries for 147 yards. This was a tough game, in that Eagles went up 3-0 with 2:18 left in game, but Red Bank brought the 75-yard kickoff return for touchdown. Eagle were driving, but Lions made interception at their own 23 yard-line to end the threat and they ran out the clock for the 7-3 win.
