Rhea Ensures Playoff Spot With Win Over Owls

Eagles Win 21-7 Over Ooltewah: Week Off Before Senior Night Vs Tyner on 10/20

Chattanooga, TN - 10 6/23

Rhea County came into Ooltewah needing a win to ensure a playoff spot. Ooltewah received the kickoff and began drive at their 35 after kickoff went out-of-bounds. Owls drove 65 yards on 12 plays with 11 runs and 1 pass on their way to an opening touchdown run of 4 yards by Kobe Baldwin.

Eagles jumped on a squib kick at their own 34-yard line to begin their possession. Eagles used a trio of running backs to move the ball in a 15-play drive for the 66-yard drive for the tying touchdown and Fugate kick for 7-7 score with 9:53 left in second quarter.

Owls began their second possession on their 20 yard-line. With combination of runs and passes, they moved down to inside the Eagle 30 and turned ball over on downs to Eagles.

Eagle moved the ball down to the 21 of Owls and Ethan Davis ran right and defense committed to the run, allowing Aiden Wilkerson to be open behind the defense and Davis hit Wilkerson for the go-a-head touchdown for the Eagles. Kick was unsuccessful, keeping the score at 13-7 with 3:34 left in the first half.

Owls and Eagles switches possession and Eagles ran out of time on their drive near midfield as halftime horn sounded.

Second half only saw one touchdown as team traded possession until a late touchdown by the Eagles.

Eagles received second half kickoff and Eagles and Owls traded punts with Eagles beginning their next possession on their 20-yard line with 7:36 left in quarter. Eagles' possession ended at midfield with their only failed 4th down attempt of the night. Owl's drive stalled and on a punt from near midfield the hike went over the punters head and he got the punt off while running and Eagle defender clipped him, which gave the Owls new life after the roughing penalty. Tough call for the Eagles. Eagles eventually got the ball back after failed 4th-down play by Owls at the 31 of the Eagles with 3:21 left in third quarter. Eagles also gave the ball back, via a Fugate punt downed at Owl's 32-yard line. Owls used a big pass play to move across midfield as 3rd quarter ended. A few plays later, it was Ethan Mosley putting an end to the drive with an interception at the Eagle 32-yard line.

Hunter Crowe had nice run to move the ball to the Owl 28-yard line. Mason Ford had 13 yard run down to the 15-yard line. 4 plays later, Hunter Crowe finished the 68-yard drive with 2-yard run for touchdown. Eagles went for 2-point conversion and Mason Ford was successful for the 21-7 lead for Eagles with 6:07 left in the game. Keshawn Smith put an end to the short 2-play drive for Owls with an interception. KeShawn dove in front of receiver and picked ball off the turf to give Eagles the ball at the 34-yard line of Ooltewah. Rhea County proceeded to eat up the remaining five minutes of clock and moved the ball to the Owl 5 yards line when final horn sounded.'

Eagles were glad to get back into win column with a 51 carry game for 230 yards and no turnovers. Defense played very well after giving up the opening 65-yard drive. After that drive the Eagles gave up only 95 yards of offense for Ooltewah and added 2 interceptions along with tackles for loss and quarterback sacks. Ethan Davis made his return from injury and added 49 yards on 12 carries and had a 21-yard pass for touchdown to Aiden Wilkerson.(The only completion of the day for Rhea). Hunter Crowe was tough inside the tackles and added a nice long run in the 4th-quarter in his 95 yard performance(17 carries). Mason Ford added 83 yards on 17 carries. New fullback on the field # 99 Mo Shirley added a new wrinkle to the offense. Leading the Eagles in tackles were Bo Shirley and Hunter Crowe and each had a tackle-for-loss.

Eagle have an open date before hosting Tyner for Senior Night on October 20, 2023.
