Rhea County Wins 28-10 Over Ooltewah with Late Rush

Eagles Come From Behind 10-0 for 28-10 Win

October 2, 2020 Evensville, TN --  Rhea County High School football team ran its season record to 6-0 with the come-from-behind 28-10 win on Friday, October 2, 2020 game at home.  Eagles had turnovers in first half that keep them out of end zone and Ooltewah also went scoreless for 0-0 tie at the half.  Finally it was Ooltewah with the initial score of the game with 10:05 left in third quarter when Owl quarterback Fisher Perry weaved his way into end zone from 21 yards out.  The extra point put Owls up 10-0   After an Eagle turnover gave the Owls the ball at the Eagle 30 on the next possession. The Eagle defense stiffened and Ooltewah settled for 24 yard field goal for the 10-0 lead with 5:48 left in third quarter. On the next possession, Ethan Davis had nice run to move the Eagles into Owl territory and later in possession, quarterback Kaleb Martin found Jayden Goodwin in the endzone for 24 yard touchdown pass.  Cole Ruehling added the extra point to move Eagles within 10-7 and that was the score at end of third quarter.  Eagles moved the ball but drive stalled and Miller punted into end zone, setting up Owls at their own 20 yard line.  A couple of plays into possession, quarterback Perry went back to pass and Fisher stepped into the pattern, coming up with interception, which he returned deep into Ooltewah territory.  Ryan Young had a nice run up middle before Ethan Davis found a crease on the right sideline and strolled in untouched for the 14-10 lead after the Ruehling kick.  So with 8:14 left in fourth, the Eagles had finally took the lead. Eagles stopped the Owls on next possession, forcing a punt that put Eagles in business at their own 37.  It was then Dalton Hampton splitting the line and outracing defenders to the endzone.  Hampton's 54 yard touchdown run and Ruehling kick put the Eagles up 21-10 with 5:50 left in 4th quarter.  Owls had ball deep in their own territorya Ferry tried to find receiver, but ball bounced off receiver and there to pick up the carron was Gavin Roddy.  Roddy picked the ball off at the 28 and returned ball to the 16 of the Owls.  From there it was Hampton with nice run to setup Kaleb Martin for the 1 yard sneak for the cementing touchdown with 4:34 left in game. Teams exchanged possession but clock ended with Owls around midfield.  This was just another of those comebacks that have become a forte for this Eagle team.  28 unanswered point and three touchdowns within a 3 and 1/2 minute stretch gave the Eagles victory # 6 against 0 losses. There were lots of heroes in the game.  Big plays from Goodwin and Hampton.  Interceptions by Fisher and G. Roddy an another solid night by the defense.  Leading the defense with tackles were Fisher and Brackett with 12 each.    On offense, Dalton Hampton led the way with 128 yards on 13 carries.  Ethan Davis had 12 carries for 56 yards and Ryan Young spent most of the night keeping the defense honest with most of his runs up the gut to the tune of 67 yards on 17 carries.  Kaleb Martin scored two touchdowns, one running and the other on the 24 yard pass and finished with 75 yards passing. Eagles had 255 yards rushing on 46 rushes and 330 yards total whicle giving up 276 overall yards, but only 115 yards on the ground on 30 carries(just under 4 yards a carry).  Eagles won first down battle 13-10 and wre only flagged for 4 penalties for 25 yard, while Owls had 90 yards on 12 penalties.  Luke Miller had 3 punts for 38 yard averagge and Cole Ruehling was 4-4 on extra points.
