Eagles and Lady Eagles win vs Hixson on Road

Hixson, TN -- Rhea County High School basketball teams came away with varsity wins on the road at Hixson on Monday, December 2, 2019. With the win, the Lady Eagles ran their record to 4-0 and the Eagles ran their record to 2-2.
The Lady Eagles had a slow start but still led 5-2 with 5 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Rhea had several steals early but were not able to convert at the other end, but still led 14-5 with just over two minutes left in quarter when Mallory Hampton made nice pass to Emma Gentry for fast break basket. With three point baskets by Taylor, Welch and Cameron in the first, Eagles took a 19-10 lead into the second quarter.
Mallory Hampton put up a 14 point second quarter, highlighted by two three point baskets as Lady Eagles build their lead to 45-19 at the half. Lady Eagles used active hands and feet to come away with several steals, which they converted to points in the second quarter. Six different Lady Eagles hit three point baskets in first half.
In the third quarter, nine different Lady Eagles scored baskets and no player scored more than one basket in the quarter. The bench supplied a nice run of baskets with Emily McClure, Hayla Patton and Sarah Conley scoring consecutive baskets during a 19-0 run for the Lady Eagles. Hixson scored their first basket of second half on a Chihiro Nakata basket with 2:11 left in quarter. Rhea County finished with 66-25 lead after three quarters. Lady Eagles finished with 71-31 win.

Hunter Hill and Ricky Guthrie combined for 15 of the 19 first quarter points as the Eagles took a 19 to 11 lead after one quarter. Hixson used 10 points from Reginald Hunter to stay close in second quarter and Eagles had 34-24 lead at the half.
Eagle won third quarter 16-9 and Guthrie scored 10 fourth quarter points as the Eagles finished with 20 point win at 68-48. Hunter Hill joined Guthrie in double figures with 15 points. Also scoring for Eagles were: Tyler Dupre 4, Josh Waldo 4, Kade Vincent 4, Hunter Brody 6, Carter Rekoske 3, Holt 3.
Guthrie had a very effective night with nice shooting from all different spots and angles around the basket. Guthrie had 15 baskets, with no three point makes or free throw attempts. Guthrie was also active on board and had double figure boards on the night.
Eagles were very active on defense on the night and kept the Wildcats off balance on the night. Nice play by the reserves in their limited time of action.
