Rhea County Baseball Enjoys Tournament Success

Eagles go 3-1 in "Play for Cure" Tournament

Pigeon Forge, TN --  Rhea County won three 2-1 games and suffered a 12-0 loss in the tournament.  Games were played at Seymour, Heritage and Jefferson County High Schools.  To open the season, the Eagles won 10-0 on opening day vs South Pitt with Ricky Guthrie picking up win in relief.

In first game of tournament, Ricky Guthrie pitched 7 innings and gave up 5 hits, while striking out 9 in the 2-1 win over Seymour.  Rhea County scored runs in the first and fourth innings.  3 singles in the first with Cook, Ray and Combs getting hits.  Ross Pendergrass doubled and scored the second run in the fourth inning.

In the second game Rhea County won 2-1 over Watertown with Austin Hailey, Rex Pendergrass and Houghston Schaefer on the mound. Schaefer picked up the win in relief.  Cade Cook had the winning rbi in the seventh inning, scoring Dawson Lytle.

Maryville Heritage won the third game 12-0 with Lytle, Pendergrass with doubles and John Combs with single for the Eagles.

In the last game of the tournament, Keaton Ray was on the mound for the 2-1 win over Science Hill.  Thompson had a single and come home on rbi hit by Cade Cook.  Austin Brackett scored on sacrifice by Connor Thompson in the win.
