Rhea Drops Both at Signal Mountain; Win Both Ooltewah Games on Senior Night: Next Face Walker Valley in District Tournament

Signal Mountain, TN -- Rhea County Basketball went on the road to complete their Regular Season and dropped both games and Rhea County won both Senior Night games vs Ooltewh earlier in the week. Rhea next looks to 4A District 5 Tournament action on Friday, February 17, 2022.Lady Eagles play at 6 pm and Eagles play at 7:30 pm. Games will be played at Cleveland High School.

Seniors honored during the Ooltewah game were: Band seniors Ian Blevvins, Cooper Curtis, Coleman Neal, Antonio Rodriguez, Jaden Sherrill, and Jovie Suttles. Cheerleaders honored were Isabella Crump, Zoe Aaliyah-Kate McPherson, Molly Robinson, Winnie Robinson and Kailee Vincent. Girl basketball players honored were Hayla Goins, Hayla Patton, Kylie Garrison and Ava Travis. Boys Basketball seniors honored were Alex Housley, Zach Howard, and Michael Truax,

Rhea County 41 Signal Mountain 53

Rhea County fell behind in the first quarter 16-10 and went further down 27-17 at the halftime juncture. Ava Travis had 9 first half points to lead Lady Eagles in the half. McKendrick led Signal with 11 points. Rhea cut into the lead in the third quarter with 15-10 advantage to trail 37-32 going into the final quarter. Signal held on for the 12 point win, 53-41. Signal Mountain hit 18 of 26 free throws for the game, and Rhea hit 7 of their 8 attempts. That disparity definitely played a big role in the loss. Neither team hit that many long range baskets with Signal edging Rhea 3-2 in 3-pointers. Travis led Rhea with 15 points and Lowry led Signal Mountain with 19 points.

Rhea County 49 Signal Mountain Boys 56

Rhea County had a rough start at Signal with only 6 first-quarter points to trail 11-6 at end of the quarter. Rhea stormed back in the second quarter as Bryce Dupre hit for 10 points to power Rhea to a 20-10 advantage for the 26-21 halftime lead. Third quarter was another big Signal advantage as Timblin had 8 points and Singal enjoyed a 19-8 quarter advantage to take a 40-29 lead into the final quarter. Rhea stayed close, but could not close the gap and Signal came away with the win. Rhea hit on four 3-point baskets and only 11 of 20 free-throws. Signal also only hit 3 long-range shots, but faredĀ better from free-throw line with 13 of 19. Andrew Matukswitz led all scorers with 22 points, while Bryce Dupre was the only Eagle in double figures with 21 points.

Rhea County Lady Eagles 47 Ooltewah 34

The Lady Eagles pushed out to a 13-8 first-quarter lead before Hayla Patton's 13-point 2nd quarter pushed the Lady Eagle lead to 29-19. The Lady Eagles maintained a double digit lead throughout the game on their way to a 47-34 win.

Rhea County 71 Ooltewah 26

Caleb Carr had 9 first-quarter points as Eagles pushed out to a 21-10 lead early and then followed that with 18-3 second-quarter to take control of this game. The Owls never hit double figures in any quarter and the Eagles had their biggest win of the season. Four Eagles hit double figures in the game with Caleb Carr and Alex Housley leading the team with 13 points each. Bryce Dupre(12) and Kyler Akin(10) were also in double figures for the Eagles.
