RCHS Students Present Mock Trial At Rhea County Justice Center

March 25, 2022

Dayton, TN -- Adam Cosby's Criminal Justice classes presented their annual Mock Trial at the Rhea County Justice Center on Friday, March 25th. These trials are usually held at Rhea County High School. This year, the Honorable Judge Justin Angel invited the classes to present in front of him at the new Rhea County Justice Center.

Students prepared for a case that is well known. It was studied by the students for weeks in advance . The case has to do with domestic violence which results in death. It is the students' responsibility to present the case in front of Judge Angel and a jury to prove guilt or innocence.

The jury was made up of Mr. Ken Buckles's US History students who had no prior knowledge of the case. Parents of both the jury and the attorney representatives were invited to attend and observe what their students had learned in Criminal Justice.

Two different classes presented to Judge Angel which required two juries. About 70 students were involved in presenting the two cases.

A big thank you to the Judge Justin Angel, Jamie Holloway, and Mike Neal for assisting in making this happen. Also, a big thank you to everyone at the Rhea County Justice center that participated and made this a real life experience for our students.
