Maddie and Mom Share Homecoming and DYW Years Apart
October 2019
Evensville, TN -- Maddie Smith recently was honored as homecoming queen for Rhea County High School on the football field before the football game. Always a great honor to be recognized by your fellow students. Madie was very appreciative, but what is even more special is that her mother, Amy Smith(Castlen) won homecoming queen back in 1993. And the situation gets even more special when you realize that both mom and daugher and even sister Delaney Smith each were selected as Distinguished Young Woman winners. Well actually, Amy Castlen, her name before marriage won the Junior Miss Contest before the name was changed to Distinguished young woman. For all the stars to line up for such an occurence is very rare.
Now without extensive investigation, I can't say there are not other mother daughter winners out there. I would love to find another mother - daughter combination out there. And for both to win the Distinguished Young Woman/Junior Miss is another special event.
Former Distingusihed Young Woman/Junior Miss winners often come back and volunteer for the Distnguished Young Woman competition and it will be a family affair for the Smith family. Maddie's mom Amy has been very involved with Distinguished Young Woman over the years.
Maddie is very involved at Rhea County High School in academics, athletics and social action. She is on yearbook staff, student council, key clubb. She hasplayed tennis and basketball throughout her high school career and is headed University of Tennessee as her college choice.
After winning homecoming queen for Rhea County, Maddie said, " I know about 10 past homecoming queens and one that is special to me is my mom.
It’ll always be a great memory knowing my senior class chose me to be their representative."
