James Wilford Carter Sr. age 90 of Spring City, Tennessee died on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at the Life Care Center of Rhea County in Dayton.

He was born on October 25, 1934 in Martinsville, Virginia to the late William Stafford and Myrtle Mae Bell Carter. James has lived in this area since 1999 after moving from South Carolina. He loved woodworking and was a great carpenter. James also enjoyed watching women’s basketball.

James is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Carter, his sister Diane Doss, and his brothers Thomas Jerry Carter and Jerome Neal Carter.

Survivors include his children James W. Carter of Silver Springs, Maryland and Loretta Lynn Holbird of Clover, South Carolina; his sister Deborah of South Carolina; his sister-in-law Pat Carter of Spring City, Tennessee; and several grandchildren.

There will be no services or visitation.
