Twelve Year Old Sale Creek Homeschooler Earns Titles in Competitive Twirling

July 13 2023 - Sale Creek, TN

Izzy Reed is a twelve-year old homeschooled student in Sale Creek who can do amazing things in the field of twirling. Bringing back memories of days-gone-by, when majorettes were a staple for high school bands. I remember watching Izzy perform at the Strawberry Parade this year and I was impressed with anyone who can march in a parade and twirl multiple batons well. But I had forgotten about Izzy until I came across her at a local gym doing a two-hour practice with her mom. I will admit, I don't see a lot of twirlers, but she was very good, twirling multiple batons well doing gymnastic type moves at the same time. Izzy has been practicing and performing twirling since the age of four. She has been coached by Tori Smith, who coaches the Infinite Twirl Club in Soddy Daisy.

She performs as a member of the Infinite Twirl club, current AAU Nations Champions and Tennessee State Champions. She has three current individual titles. She is AAU Nations All-Around Champion, Miss Petite Majorette of the Year and Miss Majorette of Tennessee. She was recently chosen top 10 at the University of Tennessee Majorette Camp and will represent the Infinite Twirl Club by twirling at halftime with the Pride of the Southland Band on September 23, 2023.

This Friday, July 14 to compete with her team at the Drum Majorettes of American Nationals, in Aiken South Carolina. She will also compete in individual competitions at the event.

Eight twirlers ranging in ages from 6-15 from Infinite Twirl Club will be competing July 15-19 at the Drum Majorettes of America National Championships in Aiken, SC. Those twirlers are Izzy Reed, Audrey Goodin, Chloee Hood, Lila McCuiston, Lindsay Moller, Josie Morgan, Sophie Morgan, Della Smith, Ada Stephens. They will be competing in a team event as well as multiple individual titles. They have been training for Nationals for nearly 11 months, practicing anywhere from 5-7 days per week. They are all coached by Tori Smith. Izzy’s mom, Beth Reed, is an assistant coach for the team.

Coach Smith said, "I am so proud of the twirlers that are traveling with us to Nationals. Baton twirling at this level is demanding mentally, emotionally and physically. This group sets big goals and they work hard until they achieve them and as a coach, that’s all you can ask for."
