Gladys “Boots” Marie Marler, age 98 of Dayton Mountain, passed away at Bledsoe County Nursing Home in Pikeville. She was born in Rhea County on June 22, 1926, the daughter of the late William and Irene (Olinger) Stephens. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Marler who passed away in 1986; her two sons, Buddy Marler and Raymond Marler; her daughter, Judy Groves; her granddaughter, Norma Keel; her grandson, Tim Taylor; and her four brothers, John Gass, Malcolm Gass, Don Stephens and Carl Johnson.

Boots lived in Rhea County all of her life, she was employed as a seamstress at Robinson Manufacturing for over 30 years. She was a member of the Summer City Church of God, the Quilting Club and the Community Center on Walden’s Ridge. She was well known for her quilting and loved mowing her yard.

Boots is survived by her two sons, Freddie (Sheila) Marler of Dayton Mountain and Jackie (Janice) Marler of Evensville Mountain; her 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 38 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild.

Funeral services for Boots will be in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Jimmy Jewell and Rev. Anthony Sullivan officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Ogden Cemetery followed by a white dove release.

The family is being cared for by Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, Tennessee, where they will receive friends on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
