Eagles Open 2021 Playoffs With 51-29 Win

Davis Runs for 256 And Four Touchdowns: Eagles Defense Totals 4 Interceptions

Evensville, TN -- Rhea County High School Eagles Won 51-29 over Campbell County to open the 2021 TSSAA playoffs in 5A Region 4 action. Eagles pulled away after Cougars cut the Eagle early lead to 17-14 late in first half. Eagles then scored two touchdowns before halftime and scored first three scores of second half to take a 51-14 lead with 8:56 left in fourth quarter. Cougars scored two late touchdowns to cut the margin. Cougars end the season with 6-5 record and Eagles ran their record to 9-2 on the season.

Eagles next host Karns on Friday night at 7 pm. Karns will return to the place of their last encounter with Eagles during 2020 regular season. Eagles won 66-28 on that night, but Eagles will not use that score to dismiss the Karns team that won their first post-season game in their history. Beavers bring a 7-4 record into the Friday game and claimed a 27-25 win over Walker Valley to open the playoffs. In that game, Junior running back Desean Bishop ran the ball 47 times for 216 yards and scored three touchdowns. Last year Bishop ran for 1,731 yards on 259 carries and scored 22 touchdowns for the 2-7 Karns team. This year he is first in the state with 2924 yards on 411 carries and has scored 30 touchdowns. Meanwhile Ethan Davis moved up to 4th in the state with 1738 yards(3 off the school record) and an average of 7.5 yards per carry, while scoring 25 touchdowns, also a school record. Expect to see a lot of running this game. Both runners bring in a total of 4662 yards.

Ethan Davis led the Rhea County offense with four touchdowns and 256 yards rushing. Eagle defense came up with four interceptions on the night as Campbell County quarterback Hunter White put the ball up 43 times on the night and accumulated 354 yards on 16 completions. Eagles only allowed 37 yards rushing on 12 carries on the night. Eagles had one pass and 57 rushes for 458 yards on the night. Eagle quarterback Kaleb Martin added 95 yards rushing to the total for the night to go along with two touchdowns. Cole Ruehling had a productive night with six extra points and a 37-yard field goal. Caleb O'Dell added a 5-yard run for the other Rhea County touchdown.

On defense seniors Austin Brackett and Drew Fisher led the Eagles with 8 and 7 tackles respectively. Jadden Pankey, Bryce Dupre, Rex Pendergrass and Garrett Ramsey each had 3 tackles. Pendergrass had two tackles-for-loss and two sacks on the night. Braden Edwards had one tackle-for-loss on the night. Jadden Pankey and Gavin Roddy each had interception and Bryce Dupre had two interceptions on the night.
