10/12/22

Decatur, TN -- Dayton City School football team finished the 2022 season with a 14-8 win on Thursday, October 6, 2022. Dayton City took the short opening kick around midfield. Meigs came up with Sweatbee fumble a couple of plays later and moved the ball downfield to first and goal. DCS defense buckled down and forced a turnover-on-downs. Sweatbees started second possession inside their own 20. Tristyan Odum had long run to move the ball inside the 40 of Meigs. Odum had another nice run and then ran 10-yards into the endzone for first touchdown of game with 2;01 left in second quarter. Parker Kaufman added the 2-point conversion for the 8-0 lead for DCS, which held at the half.

To open second half, the Sweatbees tried an onside kick that Meigs recovered at their own 47. Meigs then went exclusively with runs up the middle until they found an outside lane for the touchdown. After forcing Dayton to punt, Meigs moved the ball down the field before a failed 4th and 1 turned the ball over to Sweatbees with 3:49 left in game. DCS could not move the ball and punted with 1;56 remaining in game. A bad snap put Meigs quarterback in tough spot and his attempt to avoid the snap brought an intentional grounding penalty and eventually with 48.9 seconds remaining the DCS defense had once again forced a turnover-on-downs. With 35 seconds Waller found Barnes for the big pass play and Sweatbees were setup deep into Tiger territory. Parker Kauffman then found the endzone with 25 seconds remaining in game. The attempt for two-point conversion was not successful and DCS enjoyed a 14-8 lead.

Sweatbees kicked short and Meigs came up with ball around mid-field. Korey Pelfrey came up with the big interception and DCS ran the clock out for the win, 14-8. The Sweatbees will enjoy home field advantage as they host Oliver Springs on Thursday, October 13, 2022 with 7 pm kickoff to open the playoffs. Oliver Springs will be looking for revenge as Sweatbees won at Oliver Springs 36-8 during the regular season. Don't expect the coaching staff and players to overlook the historically strong and battle tested Oliver Springs program.
