Dayton City Rallies to Defeat Rhea Middle

Eagles Win 46-42 and Lady Eagles Dominate 46-10

December 11, 2020 Evensville, TN --  Dayton City School boys varsity basketball traveled to Rhea Middle looking for a sweep of the county series after DCS won 38-28 in Dayton with a 16-4 fourth quarter surge to break open a close game.  This game it was Rhea Middle taking the first quarter 12-9 on their way to 19-17 halftime lead.  Jalen Smith and Mason Ford led the Ealges with all 12 first quarter points for the Eagles.  Eagles increased their lead to 29-25 after three quarters.  Through the first three quarters, Kasen Travis led the Sweatbee offense with 9 points.  Fourth quarter was a 21-7 barrage by Dayton, with Landon Stewart(11) and Braylon Geer(8) accounting for 19 of those points.  Sweatbees made 12 of 13 free throws in the quarter.   With just under five minutes left in 4th quarter, Bryce Garrison came up with the steal and was fouled as he drove to basket.  He made both free throws to cut the Rhea Middle lead to 37-31.  With just over 4 minutes remaining, J. P. Brannen came up with steal and feed Stewart for the basket and one opporunity.  Stewart's free throw make put the Sweatbees down by only 37-33.  Bryson McClendal had nice block down low and Eagles had the ball with the 37-33 lead with just 3:28 left in game.  Dakota Kilby then made two free throws to push the Eagle lead to 39-33. After Rhea missed a short jumper, Baron Bruehl came down with rebound, in front court,  Geer found Stewart down low with nice pass and Stewart basketball pulled DCS within 39-37.  Rhea Middle came up with DCS miss and headed upcourt at around the 1:30 mark, but pass was run down by Bryce Garrison and he fed Stewart for the go-a-head basket for 42-39 lead with 1:14 left in game.  Stewart jumped in front of pass and was fouled by Rhea Middle with 26 secods left in game.  He calmly made both free throws to increase margin to 44-39.  Geer made a leaping steal and wass fouled with 19.8 seconds left in game.  His free throws gave the Sweatbees a 46-39 lead.  Late scores by Rhea Middle's Kilby put the final margin at 46-42.  Geer and Stewart lead the way for Sweatbees with 16 and 15 points respectively.  Also scoring were Kasen Travis 9, J.P. Brannan 4, and Bryce Garriosn 2.  For Rhea Middle it was Jalen Smith with 16 and Dakota Kilby and Mason Ford each scored 10 to lead the offense.  Also scoring for Eagles were Bryson McClendal 4 and Eric Galvez 2. Lady Eagles 46 Lady Sweatbees 10 Rhea Middle used a 26 to 3 first quarter to win 46-10 over Dayton City School.  Dayton City could not handle the Rhea Middle press, which led to several easy baskets for Dayton.  Four Lady Eagles scored 6 points each in the first quarter with Cammie Ruehling and Lakyn Lockhart each canning two three for their six points and Kyanna Martin and Allie Shaver also scored 6 points.  Lockhart with 10 and Ruehling with 5 accounted for all 15 of the Lady Eagles second half points for the win.  Lockhart(16), Ruehling(11), Shaver, Martin(6), Kloe Reeves(5) and Jo Bishop(2) scored for Rhea Middled.  SCoring for Dayton CIty was Jetta Sharp(6), Lilli GArdner(2), Tinsley Walker(1) and Sophia Hicks(1).
