Alma Jean “A.J.” Fisher Cunningham Obituary

February 12, 1937 - April 12, 2024

Alma Jean “A.J.” Fisher Cunningham age 87 of Maryville, Tennessee, and formerly of Spring City, died on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Terra Bella Assisted Living in Athens, Tennessee.

She was born on February 12, 1937 in Spring City to the late Charlie and Beulah Barger Fisher. A.J. was a graduate of Spring City High School Class of 1955 and attended Knox Business School and Roane State Community College. She spent most of her career as a residential contractor establishing A.J. Builders, and retired after 40 years. A.J. loved cooking, gardening, and ballroom dancing. She was also an accomplished seamstress. A.J. was a member of Texas Grove Baptist Church.

A.J. was also preceded in death by her brothers Dana, Bill, Buck, Donald, and Jimbo Fisher and sisters Jonce Beard, Pauline Vigfusson, and Derita Henderson. 

Survivors include her children Sherry Cunningham of Harriman, Tennessee and Cecil “Al” (Bonnie) Cunningham of Spring City; sister Margaret Lester of Dayton, Tennessee; grandchildren Ashley (Matt) Commander, Jon (Laura) Cunningham, and Justin Cunningham; and great grandchildren Lucy Commander, Baylee Cunningham, Briley Cunningham, Addysion Hickman, and Demi Brown. 

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Huskey officiating. Interment will follow at Spring City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 14, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Vaughn Funeral Home.
