Ace Robinson Earns 3rd Place Finish At State

Robinson Brings Home Medal from State Competition 2024 in 138 lb. Weight Class

2/25/24 Franklin, TN -- Ace Robinson, competing in the 138 lb division, advanced to State Competition in Franklin, Tennessee in competition held on Friday and Saturday. Ace won on Friday to advance and earned a 3rd place medal. On his way to state, Ace Robinson advanced to the state tournament, winning at sectionals held at Warren County High school on Saturday, February 17th, defeating Walker valley’s Christian Wilson(ranked 6th in state) by pin in the semi finals and then defeating Blackman Thomas Rubio (ranked 4th in state) by decision 9-7 in the championship finals. Ace finished 35-4 on the season. At the State Ace won by fall over Mattheus Volkar(McGavock), to begin his state competition. He next won in Fall 3:20 over Trevor Sexton(Knox Halls) before losing to Arash Yazdani(Brentwood) in a 12-9 decision. He dropped down to the lower bracket, where he won 7-4 over Matheus Volkart and 1-0 over Damen Pullen for the 3rd place medal win.

Added note: Ace finished 5th at the State in the 2023 State Competition in the 132 lb weight division.

Ace is the son of Cody and Katie Robinson and has older brother Miller Robinson, younger sisters Campbell and Reece Robinson and younger brother Major Robinson.

Before heading to State, I asked Ace a few questions about his wrestling journey.

When did you start your wrestling journey?

 "I began wrestling at four years old, then moved here in third grade, and took a break until 7th grade at Rhea County Middle."

What made you take an interest in competing in wrestling?

"Going head to head, with definite winners and losers."


 Do you have any drills/workouts you use to train for wrestling?

"Yes I do, Most definitely High intensity interval training, or HIIT, along with body weight exercises . Push ups, pull ups, etc."

Talk a little about how your football and wrestling skills are related.

"Absolutely. From fitted form tackles to mental toughness wrestling definitely provides skills that translate to other sports."

Do you have pre-meet workouts/eating plans you use?

"I have to train hard and fast in order to make weight. Then carb up and rest post weigh-in and pre-match."

What are some of the skills that make a successful wrestler?

 "Mental toughness, and being able to think under stress are essentials.

How exciting is it to wrestle on the big stage, State?

"It's a lot of fun, Competition is high and you can’t take anyone for granted."
