Lady Eagles Open With 4 Quick Goals On Way to 9-0 Win

Evensville, TN -- In the first game of the season, the RMS girls soccer team started strong and never let up. The Eagles hosted a very young Hixson team in their very first encounter.

First to score was Madison Smith who drilled one in from close range after receiving a pass from Bryn Fitzgerald. The second goal came quickly from a powerful outside shot from Lidia Butt who took one touch off of a through ball from Smith. Talitha McKinney put the next two goals in from balls from Addison Hughes and Butt respectively.

As the half came to a close Fitzgerald finished two times by following in balls that we loose near the goal. She showed good aggressive play to win balls and find the net in a crowded area. The Eagles showed real strength on defense both in pressuring the ball to win it back and working the ball through the back line to maintain possession and restart their attack.

In the second half the Eagles moved players around to allow them to try new positions. Fitzgerald completed her hat trick with a pass from Hughes. Collyns Stinson hit her first goal of the regular season after a great back pass from Lyla Roddy. The final goal of the game came from goalie standout Lilly Ferguson who took a pass from McKinney, drove the ball in and put her shot away for a final score of 9-0.

In addition to goal scoring, strong performances were seen by defensive backs Milly Darnell, Meredith Goggans and Leah Daniels all of whom managed the ball well with lots of pressure to win balls and work the ball forward to teammates.

After the game team Captain Madison Smith had this to say about her team’s play, “We did a really good job of making runs around their defense and playing balls through to successfully finish our plays. It was a great season opener for our girls.”

On Thursday the Eagles travel to East Hamilton middle school for another first time matchup.
