John Lewis McAvoy, age 87 of Soddy-Daisy, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Soddy-Daisy Health Care Center in Soddy-Daisy. He was born in Birmingham, AL, on January 24, 1937, the son of the late Earnest McAvoy and Mercer (Potts) McAvoy.

John was formerly of Birmingham, AL. He had a Bachelor of Science degree, was a math teacher, a nuclear radiation technician and a pastor. He served his country in the US Army and the National Guard. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Kay (Crossley) McAvoy of Soddy-Daisy; his two sons, Kelly McAvoy and Marlon McAvoy, both of Spring City; and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Leah Carter of Alabama.

John will be laid to rest at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
