Rhea Wins 35-21 Over Red Bank

Eagles Play With Walker Valley on Road on 10/1/21

Evensville, TN -- Rhea County picked up big win at home against Red Bank 35-21 on Friday to push overall record to 4-1. On Friday, October 1 for 7:30 kickoff. Eagles will look to push their district record to 3-0 as they go on the road to Walker Valley, who come into game with 4-2 overall record and 1-1 in district record.

In the game Kaleb Martin continued his almost flawless efficiency with a 6 for 7 night for 95 yards to follow up his 4 for 4 performance against Ooltewah. Eagles had a pair of 100 yard gainers with Ethan Davis(16 carries) and Latron Alloway(14 carries) gaining 108 and 106 yards respectively. Briley Mayberry added 21 yards on 7 carries and Kaleb added 63 yards on 8 carries. Five different receivers accounted for the 93 yards for the Eagles. Jadden Pankey 19, Drew Massengill 10, Mayberry 9.5 Latron Alloway 11 and Davis 36 yards. Eagles amassed 298 yards rushing on 45 carries and 95 yards passing on 6 completions. Red Bank tallied 177 yards rushing on 28 carries and 99 yards passing on 11 completions. Plenty of penalty yards with 9/92 for Eagles and 15/131 yards for Red Bank. Eagles had 18 first downs vs 11 for Red Bank.

On defense it was Drew Fisher(6 solo and 4 assists) and Trent Edwards(6 solo 4 assists) leading the way with 10 tackles. Caleb Odell(7 solo 2 assist)and Austin Brackett(6 solo and 3 assist) each added 9 total tackles for the Eagles. Jaylee Elsea picked up sack for the Eagles. Rex Pendergrass had an interception for the Eagles. Cole Ruehling had 2 punts for 69 yards(34.5 average) and went 5 for 5 in extra points on the night. Kaleb Martin and Ethan Davis accounted for all five touchdowns with Kaleb scoring three times and Davis twice.

Rhea County scored two touchdowns in the first quarter for 14-0 lead after one quarter. Davis had first TD with 5:11 left in quarter with 3 yard run and Kaleb Martin had a 51 yard run with 25 seconds remaining for the second touchdown.

The second quarter saw Eagles and Red Bank exchange touchdowns. Eagles' Martin scored from 6 yards with 5:04 to give Eagles 21-0 lead, but Red Bank 's Joseph Blackman found the end zone with 14.5 seconds remaining to cut the Eagle lead to 21-6 at the half. The Eagles

Eagles received the opening kickoff and slowly marched the ball downfield with Alloway and Davis getting the majority of the carries and Martin added a run and a pass completion to Briley Mayberry for the long 80 yard drive. Red Bank had nice kickoff return nullified by penalty but still put together a drive that found them inside Eagles 30. Bryce Dupre got his hand on a pass attempt and the deflected ball was grabbed by Ross Pendergrass to end the drive and setup the Eagles for a drive of their own 10yard line. This drive wa shorter as Kaleb Martin found a crease and took off for a 51 yard touchdown run for the 14-0 lead, after Ruehling kick.

Eagle defense forced a one and out and they took ball in good field position early in second quarter. After some good rushing plays, it was Martin to Davis for 32 yard completion to the Red Bank 6 yard line. From there Martin sprinted down toward the home sideline and put the spin cycle on the defender for the Eagles' third touchdown of the half. Ruehling drilled the extra point kick for 21-0 lead with 5:04 left in half. Red Bank used most of the rest of the clock as they drove down an punched the ball in with 14.5 seconds on the clock when quarterback Blackman found a hold up the middle for the touchdown. After kick the Eagle lead was cut to 21-7, which was the halftime score.

Red Bank received ball to start second half and due to short kick they began with good field position. From the Eagle 39, it was Blackman finding a seam through the middle of the Eagle defense for the touchdown and after a successful Jace Wright kick, the Eagle lead was 21-14 with 8:27 left in the third quarter.

On next possession Eagles had their first non scoring drive on a three and out possession. Lions get a nice return into Rhea County territory before a penalty put Red Bank back to their own 42 to start their drive. Lions knocked out a couple of first downs as they moved to the Eagle 13 yard line, but Austin Bracket leaped and deflected Blackman's pass, which was picked off by Edwards at the 15. Latron Alloway had couple of nice runs to move the Eagles past midfield. With 2:21 left in 3rd, Eagles were on the 39 before a penalty pushed them back. They put a couple of good plays together before stalling. Ruehling punted to pin the Lions inside the 5yard line. There was a little excitement as it appeared ball bounced off Lion punt returner, but video seen later confirmed ball bounced off Eagle defender.

Eagle kept Red Bank pinned in shadow of the goal posts and almost had Blackman for a safety. Lions were forced to punt as punter stood just off end line to punt. Eagles had nice return but several flags came out for illegal block, and offsetting personal fouls, but Eagles still ended up with great field position at the 26 yard line. Davis had nice run down to 15. Flag pushed ball back on holding call. Alloway had a determined run, carrying several defenders down to the 20. It was Kaleb Martin with 4 yard touchdown to push the lead to 28-14 with 8:39 left in third, after the Ruehling kick.

Eagles and Lion exchanged late touchdowns with Lions' quarterback Blackman scoring his third touchdown of the night with 5:05 left in game and Ethan Davis scoring his second touchdown of the night with 5 yard run with 2:07 left in the game. Ruehling kick left the final margin at 35-21.
