Rhea County Opens On Road At Hixson on September 30

Dayton, TN -- RCHS bowling coach Steve Williams and the Rhea County bowling team begins another year and announced roster and scheule for 2019-2020 schedule. Coach Williams has been the only coach the team has every had. This will be the 7th year of the program. The boys return a strong team, while the girls will return only one starter, Becca Rogers. Coach Williams is looking forward to his seventh season.

Head coach Steve Williams talked about this upcoming season. Coach Williams said, "We are looking for a great year with many surprises from this years team. Earlier in the year we were expecting to be a co-ed team for the first time in our bowling teams history. Starting this 7th year of our program we have seen 3 girls teams reach substate competition with teams advancing twice to state tournament. Our girls team has seen at least one female advancing to the individual state tournament every year of our program. For the last 4 years we have seen our programs top bowler Baylee Shipley reach the state tournament. Baylee is the first bowler from Rhea County to advance all 4 years. Baylee lead qualifying last year finishing 4th in the state. Her shoes will be very difficult to replace. "

"In the last three years we have seen Phillip Rogers advance from our boys program with him leading qualifying 2 years ago and last year finishing 5th in the state. Phillip lead the boys program last year to its 2nd appearance in the substate. Our team fell short to a very talented Lawrence County team. This year we are expecting to make a run deep into the post season returning all our starters from last year. For the first time in our boys history we are returning a full set of starters from the previous year."

"After seeing a very disappointing tryout session on our girls side we were afraid that we would not have enough girls to compete this year. But as the practices went on we started seeing some girls show interest and we were able to field a team to bowl. At first we were just happy to have enough girls to bowl but as time has went on we are starting to see the potential of talent we have and are starting to get excited about the possibility of our girls competing very well in district 5 play. We have a brand new team of girls along with 1 returner, Becca Rogers. We are looking for Becca to continue the history on the girls side and make a run to advance to bowl in the individual state tournament."

" On the boys side our expectations are very high for this years team. With 6 returning starters and 2 new bowlers, they have shown their ability to compete for a starting position. For the first time in our programs history we are expecting to see several of our bowlers compete to earn a spot in the individual state tournament. Also we are hoping to see our luck flip this year and hopefully come out on the winning side of a substate match to earn a spot in our first ever boys state appearance."

"We are blessed this year to see Dean Hale return to our coaching staff. Dean was instrumental in seeing our girls teams reach the state tournament. I am very excited to see his return. And this year we also have 2 part time coaches that will help as well. Returning for a third season is one of this areas top bowlers, Chris Neal. And we are also adding Rhea County native, Tim Sedman to our coaching staff. Tim helped Soddy-Daisy's girls program for several years. We are very excited to have the talent of these coaches helping us this year."
