Rhea Wins Varsity and Junior Varsity Matches
3/11/25 -- Evensville, TN -- Rhea County hosted Silverdale on Tuesday, 3/11/25. Eagle began night with 1-0 win in Junior Varsity match and completed the night with 2-0 varsity win.
JV faced off vs. Silverdale to start the rounds of games off at Bill Horton Field. . The teams battled back and forth with a 0-0 halftime score. Eagles saw a goal scored early in the second half but was recalled back due to off-sides. The teams kept going back and forth, with the Eagles dominating with good passing and runs, until the last minute of play time, when a foul was drawn in the Seahawk’s 18, resulting in a PK for the Eagles. Jeremy Perez buried the goal and the time ran out on the clock, victory for the Eagles 1-0.
Varsity started off against the Seahawks with both teams seeing plays on goal but having a draw of 0-0 at halftime. The Eagles came out the second half and saw an early goal within the first minute by Jackson Arnold, assisted by Koelar Smith. The Seahawks tried to come back with some runs on goal, but Wes Robinson had a stellar performance in the net and shut all of the efforts down. Levi Toliver took a direct kick around 40 yards out and the blistering force behind it managed to get past a line of defenders, who had blocked their goalie’s view of the ball, and buried itself in the back of the net easily. Eagles ended with a final victory of 2-0.
Elijah Anderson, a senior who played his last game due to surgery being done this week, gave his all throughout the entire game, walking off the field with 2 minutes left to a standing ovation of cheers from the crowd. Elijah, who has played soccer for 15 years, had this to say following the game, “I’m thankful for the opportunity to end my season the way I did. I was worried the previous season was my last because of concussions. I’ve enjoyed playing with those boys over the years, and I hope that they will enjoy the game as much as I have.”
