Virgil Haynes Price Obituary

May 15, 1946 - March 9, 2025

Virgil Haynes Price, age 78 of Dayton, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 9, 2025. He was born in Rhea County on May 15, 1946, the son of the late Lee Price and Elsie May (Griffin) Price. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Regina Ruth Price, and his granddaughter, Kaysie Green.

Virgil lived in Dayton all his life and was the ferry boat operator on Highway 60 for 35 years. He enjoyed whittling, sitting on his front porch, gospel music, and riding in his truck with his beloved dog, Murphy.

Virgil is survived by his daughters, Debra Price of Oak Ridge and Milisa Branyon of Evensville; his sons, Jeff Price of Dayton and Christian (fiancé Paige Couch) Green of Dayton; his grandchildren, Amber (Daniel) York, Micah (fiancé Cheriden Key) Branyon, Emma Green, and Maylee-Ruth Green; his great-grandchildren, David York, Hezekiah York, Athena York, Sutter Branyon, and EmberLynn Willow; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Virgil will be in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Tommy Stephens officiating. He will be laid to rest at Spence Cemetery next to his wife.

The family is being cared for by Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, Tennessee, where they will receive friends in the funeral home parlor on Friday, March 14, 2025, after 5:00 p.m.
