July 20, 1977 ~ December 12

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Latoya Brandiase Smith, who went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2024, at CHI Memorial in Hixson, Tennessee. She was 47 years old.  She was a life long resident of this area and attended New Mount Annie Baptist Church in Soddy Daisy, TN.  

Latoya was born on July 20, 1977, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and uncles.

Latoya is survived by her parents, Debra Smith and Robert Leftwich Sr. (mother and stepfather), and Gralin Smith (father); her children, Chance Smith-Usher and Trinitee Smith-Usher; her brothers, Jarvis and Duran Smith; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and a host of friends. She is also survived by her special friend, Latisha Coonrod.

For over 20 years, Latoya worked as a nursing assistant, providing compassionate care to others. Her dedication to her work was evident in the lives she touched. She had a passion for traveling and loved exploring new places. Latoya was also a wonderful cook, always eager to try new recipes and share her culinary creations with those she loved. Above all, her greatest joy was spending time with her children, who were the light of her life.

A funeral service to celebrate Latoya’s life will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with Minister Stanley Swafford officiating.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill AME Zion Cemetery.

In this time of loss, the family asks for prayers and comfort as they mourn the passing of their beloved Latoya. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
