DCS Volleyball Wins 2-0 Over McMinn East on 8th Grade Night

Dayton, TN -- The 2023 Dayton City School Volleyball team continued its unbeaten season with a sweep of visiting McMinn East on 8th Grade Night. With the 25-13/25-17 sweep, the Lady Sweatbees ran their season record to 7-0. Before varsity games, seven 8th grade players were celebrated with a recognition ceremony, complete with gift bags and a photo event. 8th grade players for 2023 are: # 2 Ella Kelley, # 8 Kiera Graham, # 16 Peytan Graham, # 20 Aubrey Reece, # 23 Jetta Sharp, # 25 Miley Corvin, and # 26 Parker Tidwell. Each player walked with parent/guardian and shared some favorite moments, which included eating at Cracker Barrel, player face-planting, good finishes, beating Rhea Middle and others.

Coach Johnson, in her third year as DCS volleyball coach, had some nice words to say about this year's 8th grade leaders and the team. "One thing about this 8th grade class is they have been amazing leaders for the younger girls and they were very accepting of the younger girls on varsity."

"This team has been such a close-knit group with great love and caring for one another."

Parker Tidwell(3 points) and Miley Corvin(6 points) served well to push DCS to 9-1 early lead. McMinn battled back and gave up the serve to Dayton down 13-7. Sierra Graham had several good serves to push the lead to 17-9. Parker Tidwell had a nice run of serves to give DCS a 22-10 lead before relinquishing the serve to McMinn. Aubrey Reece finished with nice serves and Lady Sweatbees came away with the 25-13 win.

Miley Corvin was at server when Datyon ran off 7 consecutive points to give DCS 7-1 lead for game 2. Zaley Wilkey stepped into server position with DCS up 12-5. Miley Corvin had a nice spike to give Tidwell the serve with Sweatbees enjoying a 17-10 lead. Mcminn played even over the next few points to trail 24-17 and then Ella Kelley served the winning point for game and match.
